Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Public Utilities, Consumption and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 0.27%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4), which rose 4.23% or 0.42 points to trade at 10.34 at the close. Telefonica Brasil SA (SA:VIVT4) added 2.39% or 1.13 points to end at 48.50 and Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR3) was up 1.81% or 0.27 points to 15.18 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lojas Americanas SA (SA:LAME4), which lost 4.29% or 0.84 points to trade at 18.75 in late trade. Engie Brasil Energia SA (SA:EGIE3) declined 3.94% or 1.65 points to end at 40.20 and Cia Energetica de Sao Paulo (SA:CESP6) shed 3.52% or 0.47 points to 12.90.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 150 to 148 and 17 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 2.35% to 32.40.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.63% or 8.45 to $1357.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 3.21% or 1.50 to hit $48.29 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract rose 2.59% or 3.50 to trade at $138.60 .
USD/BRL was up 1.08% to 3.2404, while EUR/BRL rose 1.73% to 3.6831.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.62% at 94.10.
