Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Mining, Chemicals and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 2.61% to hit a new 6-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML), which rose 0.58% or 16.0 points to trade at 2773.0 at the close. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) added 0.31% or 0.90 points to end at 292.10 and Next PLC (LON:NXT) was up 0.39% or 24.0 points to 6114.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which lost 61.01% or 133.62 points to trade at 85.38 in late trade. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) declined 7.18% or 65.2 points to end at 843.0 and Rosneft (LON:ROSNq) shed 7.52% or 0.36 points to 4.44.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1984 to 315 and 36 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.52% or 29.00 to $1882.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 5.31% or 2.10 to hit $37.47 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 4.64% or 1.93 to trade at $39.68 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.38% to 1.2994, while EUR/GBP rose 0.08% to 0.9049.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.51% at 93.398.
