Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Construction & Materials, Life Insurance/Assurance and Banking sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 1.73%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 6.97% or 43.40 points to trade at 665.80 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) added 1.68% or 23.00 points to end at 1389.50 and British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) was up 1.20% or 40.5 points to 3409.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which lost 5.63% or 9.84 points to trade at 164.80 in late trade. Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) declined 5.11% or 10.54 points to end at 195.56 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) shed 4.83% or 76.4 points to 1506.6.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1738 to 295 and 383 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.43% or 26.35 to $1868.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.05% or 0.98 to hit $94.08 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.69% or 0.65 to trade at $95.09 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.16% to 1.3538, while EUR/GBP fell 0.13% to 0.8356.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 96.245.
