Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Construction & Materials and Aerospace & Defense sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.49% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which rose 7.05% or 131.50 points to trade at 1995.50 at the close. The Berkeley Group Holdings plc (LON:BKGH) added 5.97% or 193.00 points to end at 3423.00 and Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) was up 5.10% or 23.00 points to 473.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Old Mutual Ltd (LON:OMU), which lost 5.91% or 7.92 points to trade at 126.20 in late trade. Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) declined 5.83% or 103.50 points to end at 1672.50 and Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) shed 4.45% or 88.00 points to 1891.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1471 to 622 and 269 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.28% or 3.50 to $1243.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.30% or 0.16 to hit $53.41 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.26% or 0.16 to trade at $62.24 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.20% to 1.2742, while EUR/GBP fell 0.10% to 0.8908.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 96.955.
