Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Chemicals and Industrial Engineering sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 1.31% to hit a new 6-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 9.11% or 81.60 points to trade at 977.20 at the close. British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) added 4.24% or 142.50 points to end at 3504.50 and Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK) was up 4.08% or 40.00 points to 1020.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG), which lost 5.61% or 30.20 points to trade at 507.80 in late trade. St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP) declined 5.25% or 54.30 points to end at 980.20 and DCC plc (LON:DCC) shed 5.10% or 340.0 points to 6325.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1759 to 366 and 216 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.21% or 14.80 to $1236.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 4.38% or 3.03 to hit $66.14 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 4.52% or 3.61 to trade at $76.22 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.22% to 1.2993, while EUR/GBP fell 0.09% to 0.8840.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 95.59.
