Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Forestry & Paper and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 1.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN), which rose 5.71% or 83.50 points to trade at 1545.00 at the close. Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG) added 3.66% or 62.00 points to end at 1758.00 and Diageo PLC (LON:DGE) was up 1.37% or 40.00 points to 2965.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 19.38% or 229.40 points to trade at 954.60 in late trade. WPP PLC (LON:WPP) declined 8.38% or 73.20 points to end at 800.40 and Capita PLC (LON:CPI) shed 5.39% or 6.40 points to 112.35.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1506 to 554 and 326 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.00% or 0.05 to $1314.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 3.68% or 1.99 to hit $52.02 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 2.90% or 1.82 to trade at $60.87 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.31% to 1.2972, while EUR/GBP fell 0.34% to 0.8752.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 96.238.
