Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Construction & Materials, Beverage and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 1.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which rose 5.94% or 27.90 points to trade at 498.00 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) added 4.67% or 70.00 points to end at 1,568.00 and Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX) was up 4.42% or 500.00 points to 11,825.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which lost 9.21% or 215.00 points to trade at 2,120.00 in late trade. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) declined 8.34% or 10.35 points to end at 113.70 and CRH PLC (LON:CRH) shed 5.86% or 188.00 points to 3,023.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1064 to 853 and 413 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.83% or 16.50 to $2,004.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.76% or 1.91 to hit $106.79 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.01% or 1.12 to trade at $110.02 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.59% to 1.31, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.17% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.57% at 98.51.
