Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Life Insurance/Assurance, Aerospace & Defense and Industrial Transportation sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.05% to hit a new 6-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA), which rose 3.16% or 10.08 points to trade at 329.43 at the close. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) added 2.48% or 56.00 points to end at 2316.00 and DCC plc (LON:DCC) was up 2.51% or 126.0 points to 5146.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which lost 5.19% or 130.5 points to trade at 2384.5 in late trade. Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) declined 4.97% or 52.50 points to end at 1003.00 and Legal & General Group PLC (LON:LGEN) shed 5.11% or 10.00 points to 185.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1544 to 688 and 57 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.31% or 5.90 to $1911.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 2.31% or 0.89 to hit $39.45 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 1.94% or 0.79 to trade at $41.60 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.34% to 1.3067, while EUR/GBP fell 0.09% to 0.9057.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 92.797.
