Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Life Insurance/Assurance, Healthcare Equipment & Services and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.00%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO), which rose 6.50% or 34.80 points to trade at 569.80 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) added 1.96% or 24.4 points to end at 1270.2 and Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE) was up 1.21% or 9.80 points to 823.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which lost 5.51% or 75.50 points to trade at 1294.00 in late trade. Informa PLC (LON:INF) declined 5.30% or 26.60 points to end at 475.40 and Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) shed 4.55% or 58.00 points to 1217.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1565 to 496 and 405 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.55% or 9.85 to $1795.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 4.28% or 3.03 to hit $67.83 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 3.71% or 2.73 to trade at $70.79 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.22% to 1.3213, while EUR/GBP rose 0.67% to 0.8540.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 96.465.
