Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Automobiles & Parts and Tobacco sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.82%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 3.06% or 22.80 points to trade at 768.00 at the close. SSE PLC (LON:SSE) added 2.81% or 29.50 points to end at 1078.50 and National Grid PLC (LON:NG) was up 1.90% or 14.80 points to 792.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which lost 3.33% or 54.50 points to trade at 1580.00 in late trade. Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) declined 2.99% or 9.30 points to end at 302.00 and Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) shed 2.51% or 48.00 points to 1865.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1474 to 680 and 193 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.26% or 16.20 to $1303.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 3.30% or 1.87 to hit $54.72 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 3.37% or 2.20 to trade at $63.13 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.15% to 1.2626, while EUR/GBP rose 0.13% to 0.8838.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 97.768.
