Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.77%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Next PLC (LON:NXT), which rose 7.98% or 448.00 points to trade at 6064.00 at the close. Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) added 5.53% or 22.80 points to end at 435.00 and Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) was up 3.40% or 2.50 points to 76.08 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW), which lost 8.36% or 14.75 points to trade at 161.80 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 8.05% or 52.60 points to end at 601.00 and St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP) shed 5.66% or 59.00 points to 984.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1199 to 951 and 198 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.24% or 3.40 to $1426.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.76% or 0.44 to hit $58.49 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.82% or 0.53 to trade at $65.16 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.61% to 1.2223, while EUR/GBP fell 0.77% to 0.9106.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 97.887.
