Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Aerospace & Defense and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.71%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Unilever PLC (LON:ULVR), which rose 1.38% or 60.0 points to trade at 4400.0 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 4.15% or 43.50 points to end at 1091.50 and Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) was up 3.40% or 1.54 points to 46.88 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 5.71% or 31.20 points to trade at 515.40 in late trade. Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) declined 4.49% or 6.75 points to end at 143.45 and Legal & General Group PLC (LON:LGEN) shed 4.01% or 10.90 points to 261.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1175 to 1121 and 68 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.35% or 6.25 to $1810.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.07% or 0.48 to hit $45.39 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.84% or 0.40 to trade at $48.18 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.21% to 1.3384, while EUR/GBP rose 0.01% to 0.8898.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 92.013.
