Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Financial Services and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.64%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were WPP PLC (LON:WPP), which rose 6.10% or 47.20 points to trade at 820.80 at the close. Smurfit WestRock PLC (LON:SWR) added 4.60% or 157.00 points to end at 3,574.00 and Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RKT) was up 3.99% or 190.00 points to 4,953.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included 3I Group PLC (LON:III), which lost 2.45% or 83.00 points to trade at 3,300.00 in late trade. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) declined 2.35% or 56.00 points to end at 2,323.50 and Smiths Group PLC (LON:SMIN) shed 2.23% or 36.00 points to 1,577.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1013 to 784 and 663 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.96% or 26.45 to $2,733.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.64% or 1.18 to hit $70.56 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.62% or 1.23 to trade at $74.81 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.36% to 1.29, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.16% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.39% at 104.31.
