Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Industrial Engineering and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.62%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS), which rose 3.00% or 9.30 points to trade at 319.80 at the close. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) added 2.65% or 11.50 points to end at 446.10 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was up 1.19% or 22.50 points to 1,922.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY), which lost 7.23% or 54.40 points to trade at 697.60 in late trade. Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX) declined 5.75% or 515.00 points to end at 8,450.00 and Beazley PLC (LON:BEZG) shed 3.34% or 22.50 points to 651.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1165 to 618 and 706 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 2.06% or 50.55 to $2,405.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.93% or 1.57 to hit $79.73 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.57% or 1.34 to trade at $83.77 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.14% to 1.29, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.10% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 104.02.
