Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.50%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG), which rose 4.52% or 99.00 points to trade at 2,290.00 at the close. Smurfit Kappa Group PLC (LON:SWR) added 3.91% or 141.00 points to end at 3,750.00 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) was up 3.77% or 16.70 points to 460.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which lost 2.24% or 9.95 points to trade at 433.40 in late trade. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) declined 2.22% or 49.50 points to end at 2,184.50 and Londonmetric Property Plc (LON:LMPL) shed 2.19% or 4.40 points to 197.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 976 to 783 and 715 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.45% or 10.80 to $2,405.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.07% or 1.62 to hit $76.78 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.84% or 1.52 to trade at $80.88 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.16% to 1.29, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.18% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 104.19.
