Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Banking and Tobacco sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.48%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 3.85% or 58.00 points to trade at 1566.00 at the close. Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT) added 2.32% or 64.00 points to end at 2818.00 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) was up 1.79% or 130.00 points to 7405.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which lost 10.46% or 139.00 points to trade at 1190.00 in late trade. Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF) declined 4.10% or 12.60 points to end at 294.80 and Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) shed 2.72% or 21.10 points to 755.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1155 to 733 and 436 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.66% or 8.50 to $1291.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.36% or 0.17 to hit $46.95 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.92% or 0.46 to trade at $50.73 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.05% to 1.2885, while EUR/GBP fell 0.18% to 0.9112.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 93.55.
