Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Industrial Transportation and Banking sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.46%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Smurfit Kappa Group PLC (LON:SKG), which rose 3.51% or 124.00 points to trade at 3,656.00 at the close. United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) added 3.45% or 34.20 points to end at 1,025.00 and Vistry Group PLC (LON:VTYV) was up 3.42% or 43.00 points to 1,302.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA), which lost 2.56% or 17.70 points to trade at 673.60 in late trade. Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) declined 2.49% or 75.00 points to end at 2,936.00 and InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) shed 2.23% or 184.00 points to 8,062.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1048 to 716 and 733 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.06% or 25.05 to $2,394.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.27% or 0.23 to hit $84.11 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.15% or 0.13 to trade at $87.56 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.36% to 1.28, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.20% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.42% at 104.63.
