Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Tobacco, Beverage and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Old Mutual Ltd (LON:OMU), which rose 3.10% or 4.76 points to trade at 158.34 at the close. Capita PLC (LON:CPI) added 2.95% or 4.10 points to end at 142.90 and Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF) was up 2.48% or 6.70 points to 276.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS), which lost 2.37% or 100.00 points to trade at 4122.50 in late trade. Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) declined 2.11% or 63.00 points to end at 2923.50 and BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) shed 2.10% or 34.60 points to 1610.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1213 to 781 and 319 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.10% or 1.20 to $1195.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.07% or 0.70 to hit $66.12 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.71% or 0.51 to trade at $72.72 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.45% to 1.2854, while EUR/GBP fell 0.03% to 0.8969.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 95.44.
