Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Forestry & Paper and Industrial Engineering sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY), which rose 2.95% or 9.40 points to trade at 328.00 at the close. BT Group PLC (LON:BT) added 2.69% or 6.00 points to end at 229.00 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was up 2.11% or 34.60 points to 1674.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which lost 3.15% or 5.10 points to trade at 156.90 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 2.68% or 26.00 points to end at 944.00 and BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) shed 2.35% or 39.20 points to 1630.80.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 985 to 926 and 340 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.30% or 3.70 to $1257.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to hit $74.14 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.23% or 0.18 to trade at $77.94 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.17% to 1.3218, while EUR/GBP fell 0.31% to 0.8807.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 94.38.
