Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrial Transportation, Chemicals and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Centrica PLC (LON:CNA), which rose 9.11% or 6.62 points to trade at 79.32 at the close. Direct Line Insurance Group PLC (LON:DLGD) added 6.37% or 17.50 points to end at 292.20 and British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) was up 3.86% or 110.50 points to 2971.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT), which lost 7.06% or 227.00 points to trade at 2989.00 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 3.36% or 20.80 points to end at 598.60 and Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) shed 2.94% or 51.80 points to 1709.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1352 to 803 and 199 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.61% or 9.05 to $1465.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.33% or 1.33 to hit $58.34 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 2.08% or 1.30 to trade at $63.70 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.17% to 1.2900, while EUR/GBP rose 0.09% to 0.8574.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 97.900.
