Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Electrical, Industrial Transportation and Chemicals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.25% to hit a new 3-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN), which rose 3.49% or 20.20 points to trade at 599.60 at the close. HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) added 3.48% or 17.50 points to end at 520.40 and Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG) was up 2.61% or 234.00 points to 9,186.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which lost 10.84% or 95.40 points to trade at 784.60 in late trade. Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) declined 4.23% or 20.00 points to end at 452.40 and Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) shed 4.02% or 153.00 points to 3,651.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1296 to 605 and 382 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.98% or 17.95 to $1,813.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.59% or 0.71 to hit $120.22 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.37% or 0.45 to trade at $121.82 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.94% to 1.20, while EUR/GBP rose 1.24% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 105.09.
