Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Aerospace & Defense and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO), which rose 6.16% or 136.00 points to trade at 2343.00 at the close. Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) added 3.60% or 6.00 points to end at 172.60 and Next PLC (LON:NXT) was up 2.51% or 107.00 points to 4374.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV), which lost 4.57% or 28.50 points to trade at 595.50 in late trade. BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES) declined 2.70% or 16.50 points to end at 594.00 and Berkeley Group Hldgs (LON:BKGH) shed 2.53% or 95.00 points to 3657.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1089 to 849 and 409 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.01% or 0.16 to $1344.66 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.17% or 0.57 to hit $49.23 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.26% or 0.67 to trade at $54.05 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.26% to 1.3068, while EUR/GBP fell 0.07% to 0.9135.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.28% at 92.02.
