Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, General Retailers and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS), which rose 3.24% or 98.0 points to trade at 3124.0 at the close. Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) added 3.13% or 14.80 points to end at 488.20 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) was up 3.02% or 69.00 points to 2353.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 9.79% or 147.0 points to trade at 1354.5 in late trade. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) declined 7.69% or 40.50 points to end at 486.30 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) shed 7.36% or 22.90 points to 288.30.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1304 to 901 and 141 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.09% or 1.60 to $1720.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.18% or 0.07 to hit $38.87 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.29% or 0.12 to trade at $41.06 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.25% to 1.2760, while EUR/GBP fell 0.06% to 0.8901.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 96.172.
