Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Tobacco, Automobiles & Parts and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were NMC Health PLC (LON:NMC), which rose 6.54% or 141.00 points to trade at 2298.00 at the close. Standard Life Aberdeen PLC (LON:SLA) added 4.16% or 10.00 points to end at 250.70 and British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND) was up 4.11% or 20.40 points to 517.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS), which lost 4.36% or 129.00 points to trade at 2832.00 in late trade. Just Eat (LON:JE) declined 2.10% or 16.20 points to end at 756.00 and Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG) shed 1.67% or 100.00 points to 5884.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1077 to 1065 and 190 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.02% or 15.75 to $1552.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.71% or 0.38 to hit $54.02 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.09% or 0.05 to trade at $58.17 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.62% to 1.2291, while EUR/GBP fell 0.66% to 0.9023.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 97.907.
