Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Aerospace & Defense and Financial Services sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Informa PLC (LON:INF), which rose 3.68% or 31.20 points to trade at 878.20 at the close. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) added 3.04% or 13.00 points to end at 440.70 and Intertek Group PLC (LON:ITRK) was up 2.92% or 136.00 points to 4,796.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which lost 3.50% or 16.10 points to trade at 443.90 in late trade. Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LON:SMT) declined 2.94% or 25.80 points to end at 852.60 and Pershing Square Holdings Ltd (LON:PSHP) shed 2.76% or 116.00 points to 4,094.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1088 to 675 and 723 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.65% or 15.55 to $2,422.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.99% or 0.76 to hit $77.72 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.98% or 0.79 to trade at $81.80 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.12% to 1.29, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.15% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.21% at 103.96.
