Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Forestry & Paper and Travel & Leisure sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO), which rose 4.65% or 10.80 points to trade at 243.10 at the close. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) added 3.53% or 7.10 points to end at 208.30 and Aviva PLC (LON:AV) was up 1.63% or 6.50 points to 404.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Phoenix Group Holdings PLC (LON:PHNX), which lost 3.66% or 27.10 points to trade at 713.70 in late trade. Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) declined 2.41% or 10.60 points to end at 429.80 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) shed 2.06% or 20.20 points to 957.80.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 996 to 976 and 361 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.01% or 0.15 to $1464.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.20% or 0.12 to hit $59.08 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.17% or 0.11 to trade at $64.28 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.11% to 1.3149, while EUR/GBP fell 0.04% to 0.8410.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 97.655.
