Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Healthcare Equipment & Services, Construction & Materials and Industrial Transportation sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS), which rose 3.38% or 107.50 points to trade at 3284.00 at the close. Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG) added 2.65% or 14.40 points to end at 557.60 and Pearson PLC (LON:PSON) was up 2.20% or 18.00 points to 835.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM), which lost 17.00% or 80.70 points to trade at 394.00 in late trade. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) declined 4.96% or 60.00 points to end at 1150.50 and Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG) shed 3.50% or 55.00 points to 1517.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1097 to 981 and 277 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.04% or 0.50 to $1230.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 2.56% or 1.84 to hit $70.08 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.60% or 1.30 to trade at $80.11 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.36% to 1.3137, while EUR/GBP rose 0.06% to 0.8783.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.30% at 95.06.
