Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Transportation, Life Insurance/Assurance and Industrial Engineering sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 2.77%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 8.67% or 60.40 points to trade at 756.80 at the close. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) added 5.85% or 90.50 points to end at 1,637.00 and Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) was up 5.72% or 192.00 points to 3,551.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 3.85% or 5.85 points to trade at 145.95 in late trade. Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) declined 2.05% or 1.70 points to end at 81.16 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) shed 1.11% or 0.91 points to 80.94.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1239 to 511 and 399 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.04% or 0.65 to $1,829.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.32% or 2.42 to hit $106.69 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 2.03% or 2.23 to trade at $112.28 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.05% to 1.23, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.19% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 103.98.
