Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Electronic & Electrical Equipment and Travel & Leisure sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 2.71%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF), which rose 15.68% or 1222.0 points to trade at 9018.0 at the close. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) added 11.18% or 9.16 points to end at 91.12 and InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) was up 10.89% or 350.0 points to 3563.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 2.91% or 21.20 points to trade at 707.80 in late trade. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) declined 1.97% or 31.50 points to end at 1569.00 and Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) shed 1.45% or 34.0 points to 2312.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1676 to 537 and 116 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.89% or 32.80 to $1698.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 8.25% or 1.64 to hit $18.23 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 2.37% or 0.66 to trade at $28.48 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.37% to 1.2501, while EUR/GBP fell 0.02% to 0.8696.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.31% at 99.793.
