Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Life Insurance/Assurance, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Aerospace & Defense sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 2.64% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which rose 11.41% or 28.60 points to trade at 279.20 at the close. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) added 9.25% or 27.80 points to end at 328.20 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) was up 8.52% or 38.10 points to 485.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 5.90% or 46.80 points to trade at 746.80 in late trade. Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) declined 3.09% or 54.00 points to end at 1694.50 and MMC Noril Nick (LON:NKELyq) shed 1.45% or 0.47 points to 31.93.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1610 to 620 and 119 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.75% or 30.40 to $1703.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.22% or 0.08 to hit $36.73 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.40% or 0.16 to trade at $39.41 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.33% to 1.2591, while EUR/GBP rose 0.29% to 0.8924.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.41% at 97.263.
