Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Banking, Industrial Metals & Mining and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 2.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV), which rose 7.97% or 39.10 points to trade at 529.40 at the close. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) added 6.72% or 17.70 points to end at 280.90 and HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) was up 6.56% or 25.15 points to 408.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included MMC Noril Nick (LON:NKELyq), which lost 4.23% or 1.12 points to trade at 25.33 in late trade. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) declined 1.94% or 19.4 points to end at 982.6 and BT Group PLC (LON:BT) shed 1.66% or 1.85 points to 109.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1567 to 628 and 126 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.16% or 2.95 to $1792.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.25% or 0.10 to hit $40.55 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.77% or 0.33 to trade at $43.13 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.07% to 1.2491, while EUR/GBP rose 0.62% to 0.9056.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.60% at 96.718.
