Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mobile Telecommunications, Banking and Industrial Transportation sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.81%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Entain PLC (LON:ENT), which rose 3.93% or 19.80 points to trade at 523.40 at the close. Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD) added 3.92% or 2.76 points to end at 73.20 and Pershing Square Holdings Ltd (LON:PSHP) was up 3.73% or 130.00 points to 3,618.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included WPP PLC (LON:WPP), which lost 1.95% or 14.00 points to trade at 703.00 in late trade. InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) declined 1.84% or 136.00 points to end at 7,274.00 and Coca Cola HBC AG (LON:CCH) shed 1.53% or 42.00 points to 2,698.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1410 to 443 and 625 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.12% or 3.00 to $2,434.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 3.16% or 2.31 to hit $75.51 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 2.75% or 2.10 to trade at $78.58 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.15% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.19% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.23% at 102.99.
