Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Life Insurance/Assurance and Travel & Leisure sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.68%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which rose 6.96% or 13.35 points to trade at 205.30 at the close. Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) added 5.68% or 8.95 points to end at 166.55 and Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) was up 5.37% or 139.0 points to 2729.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA), which lost 1.42% or 6.05 points to trade at 420.15 in late trade. Informa PLC (LON:INF) declined 1.27% or 7.00 points to end at 543.80 and Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) shed 1.09% or 24.00 points to 2176.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1652 to 644 and 173 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.54% or 9.40 to $1719.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 2.24% or 1.38 to hit $60.12 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.72% or 1.11 to trade at $63.31 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.18% to 1.3906, while EUR/GBP fell 0.09% to 0.8653.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.29% at 91.148.
