Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Forestry & Paper, Travel & Leisure and Construction & Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.64% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which rose 14.33% or 39.40 points to trade at 314.40 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) added 8.62% or 73.2 points to end at 922.4 and Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) was up 8.47% or 155.0 points to 1985.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Berkeley Group Holdings PLC (LON:BKGH), which lost 3.99% or 173.0 points to trade at 4159.0 in late trade. Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) declined 2.87% or 63.0 points to end at 2130.0 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) shed 1.88% or 2.85 points to 148.70.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1486 to 707 and 127 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.67% or 11.70 to $1723.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 25.97% or 4.40 to hit $12.54 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 8.14% or 2.02 to trade at $22.79 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.34% to 1.2409, while EUR/GBP fell 0.31% to 0.8725.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.28% at 100.157.
