Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, General Retailers and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.58%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 7.02% or 96.2 points to trade at 1467.0 at the close. RSA Insurance Group PLC (LON:RSA) added 6.55% or 24.20 points to end at 393.60 and Phoenix Group Holdings PLC (LON:PHNX) was up 6.29% or 35.80 points to 605.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 10.50% or 31.10 points to trade at 265.00 in late trade. BT Group PLC (LON:BT) declined 8.14% or 9.30 points to end at 104.95 and Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) shed 3.71% or 93.0 points to 2415.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1341 to 810 and 141 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 2.16% or 36.50 to $1725.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.71% or 0.65 to hit $24.64 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.41% or 0.42 to trade at $30.14 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.15% to 1.2359, while EUR/GBP rose 0.08% to 0.8751.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 99.977.
