Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mining, Industrial Metals & Mining and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.26% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM), which rose 9.15% or 57.20 points to trade at 682.00 at the close. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) added 7.66% or 26.60 points to end at 374.10 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was up 6.15% or 104.40 points to 1802.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP), which lost 4.08% or 8.50 points to trade at 199.90 in late trade. British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) declined 2.67% or 106.00 points to end at 3859.50 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) shed 2.06% or 33.50 points to 1588.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1257 to 696 and 136 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.36% or 4.80 to $1354.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.98% or 1.32 to hit $67.84 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.72% or 1.23 to trade at $72.81 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.52% to 1.4215, while EUR/GBP rose 0.57% to 0.8708.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 89.33.
