Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Industrial Metals & Mining and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Bank VTB PAO DRC (LON:VTBRq), which rose 3.44% or 0.042 points to trade at 1.262 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 2.94% or 93.0 points to end at 3257.0 and GMK Norilskiy Nikel PAO DRC (LON:NKELyq) was up 2.86% or 0.87 points to 31.29 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Diageo PLC (LON:DGE), which lost 2.61% or 104.0 points to trade at 3874.5 in late trade. B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:BMEB) declined 2.23% or 13.80 points to end at 605.80 and Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX) shed 2.09% or 325.0 points to 15210.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1071 to 844 and 462 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.40% or 7.20 to $1796.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.83% or 0.66 to hit $78.80 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.34% or 0.28 to trade at $81.71 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.38% to 1.3579, while EUR/GBP rose 0.26% to 0.8364.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.57% at 95.780.
