Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Pharmaceuticals & Biotech, Industrial Transportation and Beverage sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Sberbank Of Russia (LON:SBNCyq), which rose 10.84% or 1.30 points to trade at 13.29 at the close. NK Rosneft PAO DRC (LON:ROSNq) added 7.80% or 0.53 points to end at 7.27 and Bank VTB PAO DRC (LON:VTBRq) was up 5.92% or 0.062 points to 1.110 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 7.47% or 51.40 points to trade at 636.40 in late trade. London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSEG) declined 3.68% or 266.0 points to end at 6958.0 and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:0593xq) shed 3.07% or 47.50 points to 1502.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 982 to 972 and 428 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 2.01% or 36.70 to $1793.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.37% or 0.32 to hit $87.03 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.25% or 0.22 to trade at $88.52 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.64% to 1.3375, while EUR/GBP fell 0.19% to 0.8329.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.88% at 97.250.
