Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, Oil & Gas Producers and Tobacco sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 4.51% or 28.00 points to trade at 649.50 at the close. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) added 3.68% or 13.80 points to end at 389.30 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) was up 3.48% or 19.80 points to 588.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:BMEB), which lost 2.78% or 10.20 points to trade at 356.80 in late trade. Howden Joinery Group Plc (LON:HWDN) declined 1.70% or 13.50 points to end at 780.00 and Barratt Redrow PLC (LON:BTRW) shed 1.25% or 5.50 points to 434.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1159 to 586 and 647 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.19% or 31.34 to $2,672.34 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.64% or 1.89 to hit $73.61 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 2.34% or 1.75 to trade at $76.39 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.13% to 1.24, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.28% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.74% at 109.10.
