Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Industrial Metals & Mining and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.95%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which rose 4.41% or 6.85 points to trade at 162.15 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) added 3.39% or 32.00 points to end at 976.00 and Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) was up 2.83% or 5.20 points to 189.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT), which lost 3.14% or 65.00 points to trade at 2003.00 in late trade. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) declined 2.25% or 33.00 points to end at 1436.00 and United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) shed 2.17% or 17.00 points to 766.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1294 to 670 and 335 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.45% or 5.60 to $1261.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.43% or 0.32 to hit $73.48 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.01% or 0.78 to trade at $77.89 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.44% to 1.3228, while EUR/GBP rose 0.49% to 0.8882.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 93.81.
