Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Tobacco, Industrial Metals & Mining and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.85%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS), which rose 5.15% or 149.50 points to trade at 3050.00 at the close. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) added 1.83% or 14.60 points to end at 810.60 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was up 1.55% or 14.80 points to 967.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY), which lost 4.04% or 79.00 points to trade at 1874.50 in late trade. Legal & General Group PLC (LON:LGEN) declined 3.49% or 10.00 points to end at 276.20 and Capita PLC (LON:CPI) shed 3.01% or 3.75 points to 120.80.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1167 to 918 and 346 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.16% or 2.05 to $1286.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.48% or 0.27 to hit $56.29 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.26% or 0.17 to trade at $66.03 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.06% to 1.3167, while EUR/GBP rose 0.12% to 0.8587.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 96.812.
