Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the General Retailers, Tobacco and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.82%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which rose 4.91% or 44.80 points to trade at 958.20 at the close. Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK) added 3.99% or 48.50 points to end at 1265.00 and Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) was up 2.91% or 47.50 points to 1681.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which lost 3.56% or 31.00 points to trade at 840.40 in late trade. Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN) declined 3.00% or 45.50 points to end at 1469.50 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) shed 1.15% or 22.20 points to 1912.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1329 to 743 and 297 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.44% or 5.85 to $1312.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.61% or 0.85 to hit $51.87 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.95% or 0.59 to trade at $61.51 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.68% to 1.2858, while EUR/GBP rose 0.30% to 0.8771.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.44% at 96.843.
