Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Banking, Automobiles & Parts and Tobacco sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.78%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN), which rose 3.72% or 17.10 points to trade at 477.30 at the close. NatWest Group PLC (LON:NWG) added 2.61% or 6.20 points to end at 243.60 and Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) was up 2.60% or 1.32 points to 52.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included AVEVA Group PLC (LON:AVV), which lost 5.80% or 193.0 points to trade at 3134.0 in late trade. Relx PLC (LON:REL) declined 4.77% or 112.00 points to end at 2237.00 and Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF) shed 4.52% or 535.0 points to 11300.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1339 to 536 and 427 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 1.91% or 34.95 to $1790.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.70% or 1.32 to hit $79.17 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.18% or 0.95 to trade at $81.75 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.18% to 1.3529, while EUR/GBP rose 0.04% to 0.8347.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 96.260.
