Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil & Gas Producers and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.77%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 4.04% or 126.5 points to trade at 3261.5 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) added 4.01% or 62.00 points to end at 1606.50 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) was up 3.97% or 241.0 points to 6305.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA), which lost 1.98% or 9.00 points to trade at 446.30 in late trade. Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) declined 1.31% or 28.0 points to end at 2108.0 and London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSEG) shed 1.22% or 92.0 points to 7482.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1370 to 871 and 220 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.03% or 0.55 to $1904.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 2.22% or 1.47 to hit $67.79 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.33% or 0.92 to trade at $70.24 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.31% to 1.4165, while EUR/GBP rose 0.45% to 0.8639.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 89.767.
