Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Mining, Industrial Metals & Mining and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.72% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT), which rose 5.73% or 92.20 points to trade at 1702.40 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 5.63% or 90.40 points to end at 1695.00 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 5.61% or 17.40 points to 327.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included National Grid PLC (LON:NG), which lost 2.32% or 19.40 points to trade at 818.00 in late trade. United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) declined 2.00% or 14.40 points to end at 706.60 and SSE PLC (LON:SSE) shed 1.91% or 26.00 points to 1336.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1186 to 762 and 346 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.07% or 0.80 to $1224.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.46% or 0.99 to hit $68.88 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.04% or 0.76 to trade at $73.82 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.30% to 1.3141, while EUR/GBP fell 0.38% to 0.8891.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 94.40.
