Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mining, Chemicals and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.62%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which rose 5.51% or 9.05 points to trade at 173.35 at the close. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) added 4.21% or 18.70 points to end at 462.90 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 4.08% or 22.50 points to 574.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included JD Sports Fashion PLC (LON:JD), which lost 4.00% or 4.70 points to trade at 112.90 in late trade. 3I Group PLC (LON:III) declined 1.22% or 37.00 points to end at 3,008.00 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) shed 1.19% or 22.00 points to 1,823.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1265 to 539 and 685 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.61% or 37.55 to $2,370.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.10% or 0.08 to hit $82.89 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.12% or 0.10 to trade at $86.34 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.61% to 1.28, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.12% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.47% at 104.92.
