Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Life Insurance/Assurance, Chemicals and Tobacco sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.62%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Prudential PLC (LON:PRU), which rose 7.33% or 51.80 points to trade at 759.00 at the close. Frasers Group PLC (LON:FRAS) added 3.85% or 33.50 points to end at 903.50 and Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) was up 3.35% or 33.00 points to 1,018.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF), which lost 3.09% or 465.00 points to trade at 14,600.00 in late trade. Berkeley Group Holdings PLC (LON:BKGH) declined 2.07% or 98.00 points to end at 4,632.00 and Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE) shed 1.34% or 14.50 points to 1,066.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1089 to 742 and 681 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.46% or 10.65 to $2,341.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.05% or 0.85 to hit $81.58 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.92% or 0.78 to trade at $85.11 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.32% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.02% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.26% at 105.17.
