Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Banking, Life Insurance/Assurance and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.57%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which rose 5.54% or 52.00 points to trade at 990.00 at the close. International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) added 5.10% or 9.80 points to end at 202.00 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) was up 4.86% or 8.76 points to 189.14 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 4.05% or 36.20 points to trade at 857.40 in late trade. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) declined 2.26% or 47.00 points to end at 2030.00 and Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) shed 2.05% or 48.0 points to 2294.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1263 to 956 and 219 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.70% or 29.20 to $1685.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.90% or 1.17 to hit $60.39 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 1.48% or 0.96 to trade at $63.96 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.27% to 1.3722, while EUR/GBP fell 0.01% to 0.8543.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.35% at 93.282.
