Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Food & Drug Retailers, Technology Hardware & Equipment and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.53%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO), which rose 4.41% or 8.60 points to trade at 203.70 at the close. Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) added 3.27% or 29.00 points to end at 914.50 and Informa Plc (LON:INF) was up 2.47% or 16.00 points to 663.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which lost 3.61% or 19.50 points to trade at 520.00 in late trade. Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) declined 3.27% or 230.00 points to end at 6800.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 2.76% or 46.00 points to 1620.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1562 to 740 and 450 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.01% or 0.15 to $1257.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.59% or 0.30 to hit $50.14 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.52% or 0.27 to trade at $51.76 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.50% to 1.2193, while EUR/GBP fell 0.07% to 0.9017.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.40% at 97.92.
