Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Tobacco and Mobile Telecommunications sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.44%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which rose 5.15% or 298.00 points to trade at 6082.00 at the close. Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB) added 4.57% or 275.00 points to end at 6290.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 4.08% or 35.80 points to 912.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Babcock International Group PLC (LON:BAB), which lost 4.13% or 27.00 points to trade at 627.00 in late trade. BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES) declined 3.83% or 22.40 points to end at 561.80 and Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) shed 1.91% or 5.70 points to 292.80.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1239 to 859 and 278 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.72% or 8.80 to $1230.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.04% or 0.03 to hit $71.31 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.20% or 0.16 to trade at $80.27 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.06% to 1.3163, while EUR/GBP rose 0.16% to 0.8806.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.28% at 94.67.
